The Human Spirit
Melvin and John discuss the concept of the human spirit, exploring how our subjective experiences and interactions go beyond the explanations of neurobiology. They emphasize the importance of preserving a respectful and poetic view of human nature and potential, even without subscribing to dualism. The conversation delves into the need for understanding how our minds are built and finding balance between ancient wisdom and modern science in living virtuously as individuals and societies. In this clip

What is the nature of human consciousness?
Can beliefs be influenced by family in the episode \[Unedited] Jonathan Haidt + Melvin Konner with Krista Tippett and the clip The Nature of Conscience?
I am writing a book on body, soul, and spirit. One theme of the book is that the brain is a miraculous computer that processes stimuli but is incapable of conscious thought. In other words, there is a separation between the brain and the mind. I just viewed your interview with Dr. David Berson and wondered what your position is on the brain's ability or inability to create consciousness. I have read articles from numerous neurologists and theories of ancient philosophers about the existence and nonexistence of this separation. Most neurologists seem to agree that consciousness has never been measured or observed in the brain. My belief is that the mind is just another name for nonmaterial consciousness of the soul. I am intrigued by your depth of understanding regarding neuroscience. Do you have a podcast or article that addresses this connection? Thank you.
