Superbugs and Sanitation

Open defecation and poor sewage management in India have led to the proliferation of drug-resistant superbugs, particularly E. Coli, in the water supply. A staggering one in fifteen urban Indians carries bacteria resistant to last-line antibiotics, threatening public health. While efforts are underway to improve sanitation, the rampant use of antibiotics, often without regulation, exacerbates the problem, allowing bacteria to develop resistance at alarming rates.
