I am going to a psychologist because I feel emotionless most of the time, experience manic episodes with hyperactivity and bursts of creativity, and have very down periods. When I feel 'normal,' I tend to overthink everything, which makes me very tired and socially isolated. These issues may have underlying causes such as trauma, but the fact that my neural circuits keep wiring this way concerns me. I want to know if there are other treatments for constant anxiety besides speaking therapy, as that doesn't seem to help me despite my efforts.
I currently feel very hopeless about my case. Back in July '24, I was given Lexapro 10mg to help me with my "depression/anxiety symptoms." I have always been cautious with medication but took a leap of faith and took a single pill. Two hours later, I experienced a horrible adverse reaction; it sent strange sensations throughout my body, it felt like my body was on fire, and the fire would shoot up to my brain. I spent an entire month with nonstop daily panic attacks, restlessness, and a horrible feeling of impending doom. I went to the ER several times, and during one visit, I was even given a steroid for what was suspected as inflammation in my brain. How should I approach my situation given these experiences?
What should I do if I feel hopeless about my mental health after such a traumatic experience with medication?
