Is PUBG an indie game?

It was initially an independent project led by a small team and not produced by a major studio like Activision. The game was developed on the Unreal Engine and its initial release was in beta form, which is typical for indie games that may not have vast resources for development before launch. This smaller scale and indie nature are clear from the fact that many may not have heard of its parent company, Bluehole, unless closely following the gaming industry 1 .
