• How did Linkin Park form?

  • Sources:

Linkin Park formed primarily from a group of friends who knew each other from high school and college. Mike Shinoda, the band's co-founder, elaborated on their origins:

    • Mike Shinoda was friends with Brad Delson (guitarist) since they were around 13.
    • Brad's roommate became their bass player, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell.
    • Mike's friend from college, Joe Hahn, became their DJ.
    • Rob Bourdon, the drummer, came from a neighboring high school.

The band's original singer, Mark Wakefield, had to leave because performing on stage made him extremely nervous. They eventually found Chester Bennington through a mutual friend, which became a pivotal moment for the band. Despite many rejections from various labels, they convinced Warner Brothers to give them a demo deal, which led to their breakthrough success. 1
