• Patron turnover rates

  • Sources:

Patron turnover, or churn rate, is a significant focus at Patreon. The data science team discovered that the amount pledged by patrons does not correlate with churn likelihood. Surprisingly, patrons contributing higher amounts are not necessarily less likely to churn, possibly because high pledges often relate to one-time rewards, such as exclusive merchandise. Instead, engagement factors, like uploading a profile picture or setting a display name, have a stronger correlation with lower churn rates. Based on these findings, Patreon has initiated efforts to enhance engagement, such as creating default fox avatars for patrons without a profile picture, to foster a sense of identity and reduce churn 1.
