How was Chronosphere founded?

Sources:

Chronosphere was founded by Martin Mao and Rob Skillington in mid-2019 after they both decided to leave Uber, where they had been integral in developing monitoring solutions such as the open-source M3 project. The two co-founders had previously worked together at other companies, including Microsoft and Groupon, before joining Uber. At Uber, they built the M3 time-series database to address the challenges of cloud-native monitoring, which later served as the foundational technology for Chronosphere.

Their experience at Uber highlighted the need for a monitoring solution that could handle the demands of large-scale, cloud-native environments. Recognizing this opportunity, they decided to create Chronosphere to provide a more robust and cost-effective monitoring solution specifically designed for such environments. This move was made with the vision of addressing and overcoming the limitations they encountered with existing solutions during their time at Uber 1 2 3.

Building for Cloud Native

Martin discusses how Chronosphere leverages the properties of M Three to provide a cost-effective, reliable, and flexible solution for cloud native monitoring.
