Solar Forcing Insights

Solar output varies by one to two parts in 1000 during the sunspot cycle, leading to a radiative forcing of about one watt per square meter. After accounting for Earth's geometry and albedo, the effective warming is between 0.1 to 0.2 degrees Celsius, which, while small, is significant on a global scale. However, the rapid changes in solar irradiation during the sunspot cycle are too short to explain the long-term climate shifts observed in the 20th century.
