Photosystem II initiates the process of photosynthesis by absorbing light energy, which excites electrons for energy production. The complex structure, consisting of numerous chlorophyll molecules and proteins, facilitates this energy transfer. Interestingly, the naming of photosystems is historical, with Photosystem I discovered before Photosystem II, despite the latter's role coming first in the energy flow sequence.
