Ganglion Cell Insights

Ganglion cells serve as a crucial third level in visual processing, receiving inputs primarily from bipolar cells and surrounding areas via amacrine cells. Each ganglion cell typically connects to around 100 photoreceptors, with significant differences in connectivity between the fovea and peripheral regions. Unlike bipolar cells and photoreceptors, ganglion cells are unique in their ability to fire action potentials, adding a dynamic layer to the transmission of visual information.
