Visual Information Processing

The visual system segregates information based on its source and type, with the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) receiving a significant amount of input from the visual cortex—around 80%. This circular flow of information raises intriguing questions about top-down processing and how expectations influence early visual processing. Additionally, while most ganglion cell axons synapse in the LGN, some connect to other brain regions, playing roles in functions like the sleep-wake cycle, though these are not directly tied to conscious visual perception.
