Earthquake Mechanisms

Most earthquakes, especially significant ones, occur along the Pacific Rim of Fire, where the Pacific plate interacts with surrounding plates. Other notable earthquake sites include the boundaries between the African, Arabian, and Eurasian plates, as well as the Indian and Eurasian plates along the Himalayas. While earthquakes are rare in the centers of tectonic plates, they can occur at divergent boundaries in the ocean, with the most intense seismic activity happening at convergent plate boundaries.
