Cell Size Explained

Cells remain small due to the relationship between volume and surface area; as cells grow, their volume increases faster than their surface area, making nutrient absorption challenging. To adapt, cells develop folds in their membranes to enhance surface area. Interestingly, the largest cell is the ostrich egg, which serves as a unique exception in the world of cell sizes.
