Spores and Attraction

When stressed, bacteria produce spores that can survive extreme conditions, and intriguingly, they also generate a compound called geosmin. This dual production may serve to attract invertebrates, such as springtails, which could help disperse the bacterial spores. Researchers are exploring this connection by using traps to study the interaction between bacteria and these tiny creatures.
