Linkerd consists of a control plane and a data plane, with the latter utilizing sidecar proxies that may initially seem overwhelming. However, these lightweight proxies integrate seamlessly with Kubernetes, minimizing the operational burden on developers. Upcoming features will allow proxies to run outside of Kubernetes, presenting new challenges and opportunities for configuration and management.
