  • Leasing

The leasing pattern is a strategic approach to resource management, where resources are allocated for a specified duration, known as a lease. explains that this method helps in automatically releasing resources when they are no longer needed, thus preventing resource leakage and ensuring availability for new users 1. This pattern is particularly useful in scenarios where resources might become invalid, such as when a service crashes and its references need to be removed from a lookup service 2.

We talk about introducing a lease for every resource that is held by a resource user. So when a resource is actually granted by, in this case the grantor, and it is obtained by a holder, the lease then specifies a certain time duration for which the resource user can hold the resource.

By implementing leasing, systems can automatically manage resource validity and renewal, enhancing efficiency and reliability.

    Evictor

The evictor pattern complements leasing by focusing on the removal of unused resources, often in conjunction with caching and pooling strategies. highlights that this pattern is essential for maintaining system performance by deciding when to remove resources from memory to prevent degradation 3. This decision-making process is crucial in distributed systems where memory management directly impacts efficiency 2.

A vector is really used in conjunction with some of the other patterns we talked about. So let me try to in fact, refer back to one of the descriptions we were talking about, which is that of caching, where we said, well, eventually, if a resource is no longer needed, it ought to be removed from the cache.

By strategically evicting resources, systems can optimize resource usage and maintain high performance levels.
