Shadows of Governance
The Islamic State has shifted towards shadowy, insurgent operations rather than overt territorial governance, though a desire to reengage in governance remains. Despite lacking formal control in Iraq and Syria, remnants of the group still exist, particularly in eastern Syria. Interestingly, while they publicly rejected the Sykes Picot line, captured documents reveal they continued to manage the territories of Iraq and Syria separately, highlighting a contradiction in their governance approach.In this clip
