The cosmic microwave background serves as a relic from the early universe, with its photons representing black body radiation. As the universe expands, wavelengths shift from ultraviolet to microwaves, making detection of these longer wavelengths more feasible. While the peak emissions are easier to observe, shorter and longer wavelengths exist, albeit in much smaller quantities.
