Efforts to protect whale populations have seen remarkable success through the use of bioacoustic technologies. Karen Bakker highlights a program off the east coast of North America that uses sound to triangulate whale locations, preventing ship strikes. This initiative has saved many North Atlantic right whales, one of the most endangered species, by guiding ships to alter their routes.

Not a single right whale has died of a ship strike in this zone since this program was launched.
