Should I go on statins or approach a more aggressive diet/lifestyle if my cholesterol levels are super high (LDL 7.5, NON-HDL 8.2, HDL 1.35, Total Cholesterol 9.6, HDL Ratio 7.12, Triglycerides 1.68) and I may have Familial Hypercholesterolemia, considering both my parents had high cholesterol? My doctor wants to put me on statins, but I'm uncomfortable with that at 38 years old. I know that statins can shorten life expectancy and damage cognitive brain function. My heart results from an echo-radiology test were excellent, but the doctor said to start statins immediately if my CT score is not good enough.
