Understanding Shingles

Shingles is caused by a dormant virus that reactivates in nerve cells, leading to painful sensations along specific skin areas known as dermatomes. Initially presenting as nerve pain or burning, it is followed by the appearance of blisters similar to chickenpox. While most cases are localized to one dermatome, multiple areas can be affected, highlighting the complex nature of this condition.
