Cats and Toxoplasma

The domestication of cats has significantly altered the transmission patterns of Toxoplasma gondii, shifting from a sylvatic cycle in the wild to a domestic cycle dominated by house cats. This change has led to a higher prevalence of the parasite in urban areas, despite wild felines being less common. Interestingly, while cats were originally brought in to control rodent populations, dogs are actually more effective at this task.
