Yellow Fever Today

The yellow fever vaccine, developed in the 1930s, initially led to a global vaccination campaign but failed to eradicate the disease, which resurged dramatically in Africa during the mid-20th century. Today, yellow fever remains endemic in 34 African countries and 13 in Central and South America, with sporadic outbreaks reported. Despite efforts to improve vaccination coverage, accurate surveillance data on infections is scarce, complicating control strategies and public health responses.
