Herpes Treatment Insights

Neonatal herpes infections can occur during vaginal delivery, especially if the mother has a primary HSV infection late in pregnancy. While herpes is treatable with medications like acyclovir, it cannot be eradicated, and treatment can be administered either suppressively or at the onset of symptoms. Acyclovir is effective in blocking viral DNA replication and is generally safe, with minimal side effects and low resistance rates observed.
