Leishmaniasis and Poverty

Poverty creates significant barriers to health care access, leading to delayed treatment for diseases like cutaneous leishmaniasis. The psychological impact is profound, particularly for women who face stigma and severe scarring, resulting in longer delays in seeking help. Alarmingly, an estimated 20,000 to 40,000 deaths occur annually from leishmaniasis, often exacerbated by the inability to afford treatment.
