Lyne discusses the advantages of using trilinear interpolation over nearest neighbor methods in CNNs for semantic segmentation. Their framework outperformed the state of the art on the Stanford indoor space dataset and showed significant improvements on the larger outdoor point cloud dataset. As more data becomes available, performance is expected to improve further.
