Hibernation and Mating

Little brown bats exhibit fascinating mating behaviors, with females often engaging in promiscuity before hibernation. During their torpid state, they can store sperm from multiple males, allowing them to later choose which sperm to use for fertilization—a phenomenon known as cryptic female choice. Meanwhile, some species, like certain monkeys, may abort pregnancies if a dominant male is overthrown, highlighting the harsh realities of survival in the animal kingdom.
