AIDS Activism

Rachel Maddow's journey into AIDS activism began during her high school years in the San Francisco Bay Area, a time when the AIDS epidemic was at its peak. She quickly became involved in AIDS awareness and activism, working in an AIDS hospice and joining ACT UP, which fueled her interest in public policy 1. Her activism continued in London, where she joined an AIDS treatment organization while pursuing her doctoral degree 2.

I became an AIDS activist pretty quickly upon coming out, and so started doing stuff with. I worked in an AIDS hospice in Oakland when I was 17.

I worked on was getting him to sponsor a bill so that people who were dying of AIDS in prison would be released into the hospital where the hospice system agreed to provide secure facilities.
