His father, the youngest of five siblings, left Lebanon after World War I due to the loss of his parents and the difficult conditions there. The siblings, who were orphans, arrived in the U.S. through Ellis Island and settled in Wisconsin, where they were split among relatives due to financial constraints. Tony recalls, "They had to assimilate and learn English and all that while trying to hold onto their heritage, too, like the immigrant experience." 1
