Shakespeare's Origins

William was born in Stratford upon Avon and baptized just days later, with his birthday celebrated on St. George's Day. He was the eldest of six children in a family where his father, John, held various civic roles, including ale taster—a position that required a discerning palate. Interestingly, John's life also included some missteps, such as being fined for neglecting court duties and for a rather unsightly pile of manure outside his home.
