Why didn't I build more muscle during my five-month bulk, where I increased my calories from 2000 to 2700, followed MAPS 15 and MAPS Muscle Mommy, and achieved only a 0.07-pound muscle gain, a 3.3% body fat loss, and a 7-pound weight loss according to a DEXA scan, despite hardly ever missing my protein goal?
Please help me understand why I might be accumulating fat and unable to build muscle.
I am a 40-year-old Indian female, 5'2", weighing 126 lbs with 43% body fat (per DEXA scan) and 38% (per InBody step scale). I know I have very high body fat and barely any muscle mass. I am typically skinny fat. I am vegetarian by religion (no eggs either) but do drink milk. However, I am quite low on protein; no matter how hard I try, I typically consume only 80g of protein every day at a minimum. I have done the Anabolic program twice (not consistently), walk at least 5 days a week for 1 hour, and have never done strength training before. I started with Anabolic twice a week. I have not engaged in any other form of cardio except brisk walking. Even after doing Anabolic twice, I have still not gained any muscle. My calorie intake must be at least 1800.
