Treaty

The Treaty of Winchester was pivotal in ending the Anarchy. Gary Arndt explains that King Stephen and Matilda's son Henry agreed on terms that allowed Stephen to remain king for life while naming Henry as his heir 1. This compromise brought stability to England after years of conflict.

The agreement between Henry and Stephen was only in effect for a little over a year, as King Stephen died in October of 1154.
