Byzantine Empire

The Byzantine Empire, also known as the Eastern Roman Empire, was at its peak in the early 7th century. The early Islamic Caliphate, founded by the Prophet Muhammad, rapidly expanded under his successors, Abu Bakr and Umar. The Battle of Yarmouk, fought in August 636, was a decisive clash between the Byzantine Empire and the early Islamic Caliphate. Despite being outnumbered, the Muslim forces, led by Khalid ibn al-Walid, managed to encircle and defeat the Byzantine army. This victory not only secured the Levant for the Caliphate but also set the stage for further Islamic expansions into Persia and North Africa 3.
