Early Career
Manish Chandra's early career at Cybase was marked by rapid growth and opportunity. He joined the company as a young engineer and quickly rose through the ranks due to the company's expansion and restructuring. This period was transformative for him, both professionally and personally, as he met his wife and pursued an MBA at Berkeley 1. Despite his success, Manish felt restless in his corporate roles, which led him to explore entrepreneurial ideas. He recalls, "I was frustrated, and I ended up putting a lot of my energy into a home we just bought and remodeling it" 1.

Poshmark's Inspiration
The inspiration for Poshmark came from a blend of personal experiences and technological advancements. Manish Chandra was struck by the potential of mobile technology after witnessing the impressive photo quality of the iPhone 4 2. This, combined with observing the thrifted fashion choices of a high school homecoming queen, sparked the idea for a mobile marketplace for secondhand fashion. "The right idea is to empower everyone to have this phone," Manish realized, envisioning a platform that brought the thrift store experience to users' fingertips 2.

Caboodle
Before Poshmark, Manish Chandra founded Caboodle, a precursor to Pinterest focused on social shopping. The project began with a small team meeting on weekends, gradually developing a working prototype that allowed users to compare and comment on products 3. Despite initial skepticism from investors about the concept of social shopping, Manish's vision was clear. "I realized I was in a room full of men, and our product was predominantly 90%, 95% being used by women," he noted, highlighting the disconnect between investor perceptions and user demographics 3.
