Vision

The vision for Babcock Ranch was to create the most sustainable new city in the world, a concept that was groundbreaking in 2005. Syd Kitson aimed to integrate the environment with urban development, preserving wetlands and utilizing solar energy to power the town 1. He faced significant challenges, including negotiating the purchase of 91,000 acres of land, of which 80% was conserved as a nature preserve 2. Kitson recalls the skepticism he faced, noting,

People were looking at us going, solar energy, going to have this town powered by solar energy.

Journey
