I'm struggling with all the conflicting information about fasting right now. I've heard several podcasts talk about women in middle age not doing fasted workouts in the morning or fasting until later in the day. I had lost 35 lbs a few years ago with afternoon eating windows of around 4-5 hours, but this past 6 months, I gained 20 lbs over the holidays and just can't get it off. I know I have a lot of hormonal issues right now, so what worked before isn't working now. I'm planning to try opening my eating windows earlier in the day with protein and ending them by early afternoon, aiming to stretch the eating time to 6-8 hours to get more protein in. I'm hoping this will help. I'm afraid I might eat too much with a longer window, but adding more protein should help. I also try to get most of my protein from food, but it's hard, and I will probably need to add some protein or collagen powder to my meals to hit my goals on a lot of days. Is this approach reasonable?
I did an extended 5-day fast 2 weeks ago. I was weighing about 116 lbs a month ago. After the fast, I weighed 110 lbs. On the third, fourth, and fifth days, I gained a pound daily due to my refeeding, and this past week I've been steady at 113.5 lbs. I am doing weight exercises mixed with cardio. I am 1.52 m tall. My goal is to lose belly fat and gain muscle. I stopped eating sugar and alcohol 10 days after my fasting, having very little kombucha. I try to prioritize protein, eating eggs in the morning and chicken in the afternoon, although I eat cheese and dairy products with them usually. What advice can you give me, and how can I know if my weight gain is muscle or fat? I have been doing exercise before the fast and after.
I have a question about the episode s4/e08 Demystifying Metabolism for the Endurance Athlete with Dr. Stephanie Compton, PhD, RD and the clip Weight Loss Insights. I'm considering an 800 Cal diet like David Goggins. Currently, I am at 1400 calories, but after losing my first 30lbs, I wasn't seeing any more progress, so I went down to a 1200-calorie diet and maintained it for about 6 months, doing 45 minutes of Burn Boot Camp 5 days per week. However, there was no weight loss on the scale at all—just fluctuations of ±6 lbs from day to day. I've kept the 30lbs off for a little over a year, but I'm not moving and have not been for the past 6 months. I have PCOS, or what health professionals refer to as a form of PCOS, so I have had no luck losing weight. I was hoping to find insight or recommendations to step it up.
