Infinite Universes

The concept of infinite universes challenges our understanding of reality. James Fodor explains that the unobservable universe is likely much larger than what we can see, with theories like string theory and cosmic inflation suggesting the existence of countless other universes, possibly with different laws of physics 1. Speculations about what lies beyond our universe extend to regions like the Oort Cloud and beyond. Fodor describes the Oort Cloud as a spherical collection of icy objects, potentially the origin of long-period comets, located about 50,000 astronomical units from Earth 2. He highlights the vastness of space, noting that even our fastest probes would take thousands of years to reach these distant regions 3. "Space is just so mind-bogglingly huge that the distances are just ridiculously enormous," he remarks, emphasizing the challenges of interstellar travel 3.
