Luna's Ordeal

Luna, a playful golden Labrador, faced a terrifying ordeal when she became mysteriously ill. Her owner, Margot, noticed Luna's reluctance to walk and her weakening condition, leading to a vet visit where the diagnosis of rat lungworm was suggested 1. This parasite, likely ingested when Luna ate a slug, caused severe symptoms including paralysis and incontinence 2. Parasite Life Cycle

The rat lungworm parasite has a complex life cycle that inadvertently impacted Luna. Typically, the parasite thrives in rats, where it reproduces and is expelled through feces, which slugs consume 4. This cycle was disrupted when Luna ate an infected slug, causing the parasite to invade her nervous system, leading to severe illness.
