Rivalry and Friendship

Bolota and Jonathan's intense rivalry on the track eventually led to a strong friendship. Despite competing against each other, they became teammates and even roommates. Bolota's departure from the Cal program was amicable, as he wanted to free up funds for the struggling team. Cal's underappreciated status and focus on weeding out students contrasted with Stanford's ample resources and support.
