Lipoprotein and Atherosclerosis

High levels of lipoprotein (LP) may contribute to cardiovascular events even when LDL cholesterol is at target levels. Existing data suggests that significant reductions in LP are necessary to mitigate the risk of atherosclerotic disease. Mendelian studies indicate that lowering LP concentrations by 100 mg/dL could eliminate the atherosclerotic signal, highlighting its critical role in both initiating plaque formation and exacerbating existing conditions.
