Early Life

Simón Bolívar's early life was marked by both privilege and tragedy. Born into one of the wealthiest Creole families in Venezuela, his father was among the richest men in the region, owning vast estates and cacao plantations 1. Despite this affluence, Bolívar's childhood was marred by the loss of both parents to tuberculosis by the age of nine, leaving him a wealthy orphan under the care of relatives more interested in his inheritance than his well-being 2.
